Eli Lilly, a drug company, once again proved that their hearts are as black as coal with their decision to raise the price of Humalog, a life saving drug that Hannah currently has a Rx of, just after holding a conference specifically to discuss the serious price concerns surrounding insulin. They pretended to care, but we now know the truth.
They heard stories of the struggles that families were experiencing because of the price of insulin, a drug that has been around for over 100 years, and then they nodded their heads in solidarity that this is a BIG BIG problem, and turned around and raised the mother fucking price of insulin. AGAIN.
They have NO excuse. They must be held accountable. In an interview given, Mark Taylor was quoted as saying:
When pricing its products, Lilly takes into account "the value they bring to patients and the healthcare system, as well as current marketplace conditions and the need to fund the development of the next generation of innovative medicines," (Lilly spokesman Mark) Taylor said.
"The value they bring to patients and the healthcare system."
So, they basically just admitted that their pricing reflects the fact that they realize that people can not live without this drug, so basically they can charge whatever they want because who's going to stop taking it?
There is no choice when the pharmacist asks "are you aware of how much this costs? Do you still want it?" It's not a fucking blood pressure drug. It's insulin. Hannah's body doesn't produce it, so I have to get it from the pharmacist every month. If I don't, she dies. Period.
Insulin, or death.
I am furious.
Eli Lilly is a business that cares about one thing, and one thing only; lining their own fat pockets.
They care nothing about the strain they place every day on families in this country. Do you know how much a vial of Humalog costs in Canada? I'll give you a hint: it's not hundreds of dollars.
I am sick to my stomach wondering how the future will be for my daughter and the several others who have been diagnosed.
If they keep raising prices, who will stop them? What do we do?
I feel like our hands are tied, but maybe not.
We could just start going to Canada for our Rx drugs. It's not illegal, and in many cases, it saves families hundreds and thousands each year. They will even ship it to you.
I want the executives who make these decisions at Eli Lilly to hurt as badly as I do right now. They deserve to know the pain and mental anguish that parents feel knowing that this won't get better until we do something about it.
We need our politicians to stand up for what is right. I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat...we deserve people who will represent us and work for us.
My daughter's life should not be for profit, and yet, here we are.
